About Digital Gallery Plus
|
Thank you for accessing this website. Its purpose is primarily to share my enthusiasm for photography with friends and other enthusiasts, particularly those with an interest in digital imaging processes. Formerly a member and chairman of Photocraft Camera Club in Wallington, Surrey, I am a teacher by profession - now retired. Digital photography is but one of my interests, and has to vie for my attention with music - particularly of the Jazz variety - which is why you will find a number of images of professional musicians within these pages. Although many of the pages are reserved for viewing images, I have included other sections, such as Digital Matters and Workshop, which provide useful technical information, discussion, and ideas that underpin digital imaging and photography - hence the title: Digital Gallery Plus. I have to admit to some fascination with the technical aspects of modern photography, but personally do not lay claim to any special expertise in this field. My aim is simply to share experience and knowledge, in the hope that it might be appreciated and found useful by others. Ultimately, my interest is in the creative nature of photography and image making. From my point of view, technology, if used sensibly, is an important and useful tool in so far as it enables us to achieve our more visual ( dare I say 'pictorial', 'aesthetic'? ) objectives. Consequently, I think it is necessary to maintain a sensible balance between theory and practice, technique and art. Hopefully, this site manages to reflect these views in a readable and accessible manner. Many of the pictures on this site were taken with a single lens reflex camera onto 35 mm film, which was then scanned and edited in Photoshop. However, since acquiring the Canon 10D DSLR my work has been with this camera, and is the basis for slideshows as well as some gallery work.. For internet purposes the images have been converted to medium resolution JPEG files, the largest being no more than about 40-50 KB in file size. Consequently, there is an inevitable trade-off between quality and speed of access. The site was designed in MS FrontPage to be viewed at a minimum screen resolution of 800 x 600 pixels, but preferably 1024x768 or higher. As a number of minor features are not supported in all browsers, the appearance of some pages may differ slightly if you are not using Internet Explorer. Helpful feedback is always welcome, or if you seek further information concerning material on this site, you may contact me at e-mail address: The Guest Book is available for general comment and appreciation only. All other comments and enquiries should be make use of the email facility. Sid Mitchell |
